THE PAINFUL REALITY:
What are we eating for breakfast?
Most of us will hear our children complain of being hungry while standing in front of a full refrigerator. But for far too many families in Eretz Yisroel, “Ima, I’m starving” is the chilling echo of a harrowing reality.
Stomachs rumbling, hundreds of children are right now turning to their parents in hunger.
The numbers tell the story
Merely 4 shekel a day provides a child with the basic nourishment of bread, butter, milk and eggs.
The numbers paint a picture of the abject poverty. A 100 shekel donation (approximately $25 USD) can provide enough to sustain one child for a month. And yet that is an amount beyond the means of hundreds of families.
Every day, parents face the shame and heartache of being unable to feed their family the bare basics.
BREAD & BUTTER MAKES A DIFFERENCE:
No Jewish child should ever lack the basic sustenance we all take for granted. Under the auspices of Gedolim, a special fund was established to raise the money to supply bread, butter, milk and eggs to needy families. The relief this brings cannot be overstated. Parents no longer need to face the daily agony of hungry children, and children can focus on just being kids.
Bread & Butter families receive one 100-shekel voucher per child every month, to be exchanged for milk, eggs, bread and butter. Bread & Butter reimburses participating stores for used vouchers. This simple method allows parents the fundamental dignity of shopping in the store just like everyone else.
Bread & Butter needs your help. For as many families as we currently support there are hundreds more desperate to join. Bread & Butter will not accept a family until the necessary funds are in place.
